Thai Baht Rate (THB) \u2013 Exchanging Baht at a Warsaw Kantor<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The Thai baht (THB), written “bat” in Polish, is the currency of the Kingdom of Thailand, issued by the Bank of Thailand. At the Argentarii kantor on Grzybowska 61 in Warsaw you can buy baht before flying to Bangkok and sell the notes left over after you come back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today\u2019s Thai baht rate (THB\/PLN)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We publish buy and sell rates for the baht on the agkantor.pl home page<\/a> and update them during opening hours. The board above the counter shows exactly the same figures, so you see the rate before the transaction rather than after it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The baht is quoted daily by the National Bank of Poland in table A. In the release of 7 August 2026 (table 152\/A\/NBP\/2026) the mid rate was 0.1129 PLN per baht. That is a reference figure: a kantor rate includes a spread, so it is worth checking the current board before you exchange. How much is 1 baht and what is 1000 baht in z\u0142oty<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The baht is a small unit: one baht is worth roughly eleven groszy. In practice you can divide Thai prices by nine to get a rough figure in z\u0142oty, so a 100-baht street food meal costs about 11 PLN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Using the NBP mid rate of 7 August 2026 (0.1129 PLN), 100 baht is about 11 PLN, 500 baht about 56 PLN, 1000 baht about 113 PLN, 2000 baht about 226 PLN and 10,000 baht close to 1130 PLN. The other way round, 100 PLN buys roughly 886 baht.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Baht or bat \u2013 why Polish sites spell it differently<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Both spellings mean the same thing. “Baht” comes straight from the English transcription of the Thai \u0e1a\u0e32\u0e17. Polish dictionaries and the National Bank of Poland use “bat”: in the table of average rates the currency appears as “bat (Tajlandia)”, code THB.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Everyday Polish speech usually keeps “baht”, because that is the spelling on airport boards, in tour operator price lists and on Thai ATMs. The Polish form is awkward for another reason: “bat” also means a whip. At the counter both words are understood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One baht is divided into 100 satang, though satang coins now appear mainly in supermarket rounding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What currency is used in Thailand<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The baht is the only legal tender across the Kingdom of Thailand. There is no parallel dollar or euro pricing, as happens in some tourist economies. In Bangkok, on Phuket and on Koh Samui you pay in baht, and settling in euro means accepting whatever rate the seller decides on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The baht is fully convertible and one of the stronger currencies in Southeast Asia. In border areas of Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar it circulates alongside the local currency, but outside Thailand it is not money you can spend freely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Polish z\u0142oty is hard to exchange in Thailand. Bangkok exchange offices quote the dollar, euro, pound and the main Asian currencies; PLN, when it appears at all, carries a very wide spread. That is why z\u0142oty is best converted before departure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What moves the baht against the z\u0142oty<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The baht floats under the supervision of the Bank of Thailand. The rate is driven mainly by tourism revenue, which is one of the pillars of the Thai economy, by the trade surplus and by central bank decisions on interest rates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

THB\/PLN is not quoted directly on international markets. The rate you see in Poland is derived: first USD\/THB, then the dollar to z\u0142oty rate<\/a>. A stronger dollar against the z\u0142oty usually lifts the price of the baht in the kantor even when the baht itself is flat against the dollar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seasonality matters too. The Thai high season runs from November to February, and that is when Polish kantors see the heaviest demand for baht.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Buying and selling baht in Warsaw<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We also buy baht back after the trip. Many travellers return from Thailand with a few thousand baht that will not gain value in a drawer, so it is better to settle it straight away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Which Thai banknotes we accept<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The notes in circulation are 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1000 baht. The current seventeenth series, issued in 2018, carries the portrait of King Rama X. The older sixteenth series from 2012\u20132015 and the second type of the fifteenth series remain legal tender in Thailand, and we accept those as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Notes older than the fifteenth series are not bought here, because they no longer circulate in Thailand itself and only the Bank of Thailand exchanges them. Badly damaged, written-on or taped notes are valued individually at the counter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We do not take coins: processing them costs more than they are worth, so small change is best spent before you leave. One practical note for travellers \u2014 Thai banknotes carry the image of the monarch, and defacing or stepping on them is a criminal offence in Thailand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How much baht you can bring in and take out of Thailand<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There is no limit on bringing baht into Thailand. Taking it out is restricted: without a permit you may carry out up to 50,000 baht per person, or up to 2,000,000 baht per transaction to neighbouring countries \u2014 Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Vietnam and the Chinese province of Yunnan \u2014 with amounts above 450,000 baht requiring a customs declaration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Foreign currency may be carried without limit, but the equivalent of more than 20,000 US dollars must be declared to customs on entry and on exit. Failing to declare, or understating the amount, is treated as a criminal offence in Thailand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These rules are the reason the baht rarely reaches Polish kantors. It comes back to Europe mostly in travellers\u2019 wallets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cash or card \u2013 how you pay in Thailand<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Cards work without trouble in hotels, shopping malls and chain restaurants. Beyond those, Thailand remains a cash country: night markets, street kitchens, songthaews, tuk-tuks, temple entry fees and scooter rentals all run on banknotes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Withdrawing from a Thai ATM with a foreign card is expensive, because the fee is flat and does not depend on the amount. In 2026 it is typically 250 baht for Visa cards and up to 350 baht for Mastercard, depending on the bank; not long ago it was 220 baht. On top of that come your own bank\u2019s commission and any DCC conversion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over a week-long trip that usually means several such charges. Exchanging cash before departure simply removes them, and that is the main reason to take baht with you from Poland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The baht as a unit of gold weight<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In Thailand the word “baht” is not only money but also a unit of weight for gold. One baht equals 15.244 grams of bullion, or about 15.16 grams in jewellery. Gold shops in Bangkok\u2019s Yaowarat district quote their prices in this system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thai jewellery is usually 96.5 percent pure, noticeably higher than the European 585 or 750 standards, which is why it looks so intensely yellow. How the exchange works at the kantor<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The exchange takes a few minutes. You come to the window, hand over the notes, the cashier checks them in a tester and counts them. You see the rate on the board before the transaction, we add no commission and no counting fee, and the cash is paid out immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Identification is required only for transactions worth 15,000 euro or more, under AML rules. The kantor operates on the basis of an entry in the register of bureau de change activity kept by the National Bank of Poland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
