We operate legally, on the basis of entry in the register of currency exchange activity kept by the NBP, and we treat customer security as a priority. For transactions equivalent to EUR 15,000 or more, we verify identity against an ID document \u2014 a requirement of anti-money-laundering (AML) regulations. New polymer banknotes (Elizabeth II and Charles III)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Modern pounds are polymer banknotes \u2014 more durable and better protected than the old paper ones. Notes bearing the image of Queen Elizabeth II circulate alongside the newer ones with a portrait of King Charles III. Both are legal tender and we exchange them without any problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Old, withdrawn pounds (\u00a320 and \u00a350) \u2014 do we accept them?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We exchange only current, circulating banknotes. Paper \u00a320 notes (featuring Adam Smith) and \u00a350 notes (featuring James Watt and Matthew Boulton) lost legal tender status on 30 September 2022, and paper \u00a35 and \u00a310 notes had been withdrawn earlier. We do not accept such banknotes \u2014 they are not exchanged by the NBP either. Withdrawn pounds can, however, be exchanged indefinitely directly at the Bank of England, in person or by post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The British pound as an investment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Some customers buy pounds not for travel but as a way to diversify their savings. Putting capital into the currency of a stable economy can be reasonable when the z\u0142oty is volatile. You should, however, keep the risk in mind: the GBP\/PLN rate moves in both directions and a profit is not guaranteed.
