Swiss franc – the currency of Switzerland and Liechtenstein
The currency of Switzerland and Liechtenstein was introduced in the Swiss Confederation in 1850. Until 1967, coins were minted in silver, but since 1968, they have been made of cupronickel – with the exception of the 5-centime coin, which is made of aluminum bronze. Pre-1967 Swiss silver francs are of interest to collectors. Currently, coins in circulation are in denominations of 5, 10, and 20 centimes (or rappen, depending on the region), as well as ½, 1, 2, and 5 francs. One franc is worth 100 centimes.
