UAE Dirham Exchange Rate (AED) – Currency Exchange in Warsaw

The UAE dirham (AED) is the official currency of the United Arab Emirates – Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the five remaining emirates. At the Argentarii kantor in Warsaw you can buy dirhams before you fly and sell the notes you bring back, at the current rate.

Current UAE dirham rate (AED/PLN)

You will find the current buy and sell rates for the dirham on the agkantor.pl homepage. We update them throughout opening hours. They are more favourable than the board, so ask the cashier for them when you exchange in person. The rate is the same regardless of the amount.

The National Bank of Poland publishes the AED rate only once a week, in table B of foreign exchange rates – unlike the euro or the dollar, which are quoted daily. Exchange office rates can therefore differ from the last NBP publication, so always check the rate on the day you exchange.

How much is 100 AED in złoty

At the NBP mid rate, 1 AED = 1.0394 zł (table 038/B/NBP/2026 of 23 September 2026), which means 1 zł = 0.9621 AED.

How much is 1 dirham and 100 dirhams in złoty

The dirham is one of the easier currencies to convert in your head: for years its rate has stayed close to the złoty – usually somewhere between 1.00 and 1.20 PLN per 1 AED. As a rough guide, 100 dirhams is 100–120 PLN and 1,000 dirhams is around 1,000–1,200 PLN, which makes Dubai price tags readable almost one to one.

Where to buy and sell dirhams in Warsaw

The dirham is not a currency you will find in every exchange office – most of them handle a dozen or so of the most popular currencies and stop there. What currency is used in Dubai and the UAE

One currency is used across the whole of the United Arab Emirates – the UAE dirham, code AED, informally written as “Dh” or “DHS”. Dubai has no separate currency of its own, so the “Dubai currency” and the Emirati dirham are exactly the same thing. One dirham is divided into 100 fils.

Cards are accepted without any trouble in hotels, malls and restaurants. Cash is useful in the souks, where you haggle anyway, in taxis, in smaller places in Deira and Bur Dubai, and for tips. Watch out for card payments converted straight into your home currency (DCC) – the merchant’s terminal sets the rate and it usually works out worse than exchanging cash in advance.

What drives the AED/PLN rate

The dirham is pegged to the US dollar: since November 1997 the Central Bank of the UAE has maintained a fixed parity of 3.6725 AED to 1 USD. In practice this means the AED/PLN rate has nothing to do with what happens in the Emirates and everything to do with the dollar–złoty pair.

So if you are tracking the dirham before a trip, just watch the dollar – the two move together almost to the grosz. Indirectly the euro rate matters too, since it largely sets where the złoty trades.

Which Emirati banknotes we accept

Banknotes in circulation are 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1,000 dirhams. Since 2021 the CBUAE has been gradually replacing them with a polymer series: it started with the 50, the 5 and 10 followed in 2022, the 500 and 1,000 in 2023, and the 100 in 2025. Older paper notes remain legal tender and circulate alongside the polymer ones, so we accept both.

We do not buy coins – 1 dirham, 25 and 50 fils – just as we do not buy coins in any other currency, so it is best to spend your change before flying home. We do not accept damaged, taped or heavily soiled notes.

UAE dirham vs Moroccan dirham – two different currencies

The word “dirham” covers two entirely different currencies: the UAE dirham (AED) and the Moroccan dirham (MAD). In the NBP table B of 5 August 2026 the Emirati dirham was worth 1.0159 PLN and the Moroccan one 0.4006 PLN – a difference of roughly two and a half times, and an expensive mistake to make when planning a travel budget.

There is a practical difference too. The Moroccan dirham has limited convertibility and its export from Morocco is capped, which is why Polish exchange offices usually do not carry it. You buy it once you are there. The UAE dirham is fully convertible and can be taken in and out freely. At Argentarii we exchange Emirati dirhams (AED).

How the exchange works

Check the current rate and come to Grzybowska 61. The exchange takes a few minutes: you give the amount, we confirm the rate and pay out cash straight away. An ID document is only required for transactions equivalent to EUR 15,000 or more, in line with AML rules. The kantor operates on the basis of an entry in the NBP register of currency exchange activity.

Is it better to exchange złoty for dirhams in Poland or in Dubai?

The dirham is pegged to the US dollar, so there is nothing to gain from rate movements on either side – the difference comes down to margins alone. Exchanging in Poland means you land with cash for the first expenses: a taxi, tips or the souk. What is worth avoiding everywhere are airport and hotel exchange desks and card payments converted on the spot (DCC) – those are usually the most expensive options.
