Gold quotations and the bar price at the exchange office
We calculate the price of a bar from the current market quotation for gold in złoty, plus our margin. From 10 g the margin per gram is lower, so one larger bar costs less per gram than several small ones. The chart below shows the price of 1 g of gold published daily by the NBP: it is a reference point for the whole market, not our selling price. The difference between it and the table is the margin and the cost of minting the bar.

Where to Buy Gold in Warsaw — NBP-Licensed Exchange
Argentarii is a stationary exchange office entered in the register of currency exchange activity kept by the National Bank of Poland (NBP). You will find us in the centre of Warsaw, in the Platinum Towers complex at Grzybowska 61 (Wola), a few minutes from the Rondo Daszyńskiego metro station.
Buying at a stationary exchange office differs from ordering in an online shop: you see the bar before you pay, collect it on the spot and pay in cash or by bank transfer, with no courier and no shipping risk for the metal. You check the price in the table on this page and refer to it at the counter.
We carry out transactions in line with anti-money-laundering regulations: from the equivalent of EUR 15,000 we will ask for an identity document and, in some cases, for information on the source of funds. Besides selling gold, we offer currency exchange and coin buying and selling.
Investment Gold with No VAT
In Poland, the purchase of investment gold is exempt from VAT under Article 122 of the VAT Act. This applies to bars with a fineness of at least 995 and to gold bullion coins that meet the statutory criteria.
In practice you pay the price of the metal plus the dealer’s margin, without the 23% VAT that applies to jewellery and other gold products. Tax questions on a later resale, for example a sale within six months of purchase, are best discussed with a tax adviser.
MIX gold bars: what you can buy at the exchange office
We sell MIX gold bars of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 g and 1 troy ounce (31.1 g). MIX means an unsorted bar: the same weight and fineness, but with no choice of producer. Each bar comes from a mint accredited by the LBMA (London Bullion Market Association) and is sealed in a blister pack with a serial number and a certificate. You do not choose the brand, which is why such bars usually cost less than a bar from a specific mint.
People often buy 1 g and 2 g bars in blister packs as gifts: for a christening, first communion or birthday. From 10 g the price per gram is lower, so for a larger amount one 50 g or 100 g bar works out cheaper than several smaller ones. An intact blister pack with a certificate also makes a later resale easier, because the bar does not need its fineness tested again.

The price per gram depends on the weight: a gram in a 1 g bar costs the most, a gram in bars from 10 g the least, because minting a small bar costs more per gram. The table at the top of the page shows the current price of every weight, the price per 1 g and the time of the last update.
Can I buy gold bars from the NBP?
No. The National Bank of Poland does not sell investment gold bars to individual customers; it does publish a daily price for 1 g of gold, which the whole market uses as a reference point. You can buy bars from mints, precious metal dealers and exchange offices such as Argentarii, at the current quotation plus the seller’s margin.
What does a MIX gold bar mean?
MIX is an unsorted bar: a bar of a given weight and fineness, without a choice of producer. You receive a bar from one of the LBMA-accredited mints, in a blister pack with a serial number and a certificate. Such a bar usually costs less than a branded one, and when you resell it at an exchange office, weight and fineness are what count.

Is buying gold exempt from VAT?

Do I have to report a gold purchase to the tax office?
No. You do not report the purchase of a bar at an exchange office to the tax office and you pay no tax on civil law transactions on it, because a sale of investment gold by a business falls under the VAT Act (with an exemption). A tax obligation may arise only on a resale within six months of purchase; ask a tax adviser then.
What documents do I need to buy gold?
