The Turkish lira (TRY) is the official currency of Türkiye, issued by the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye (TCMB). At Kantor Argentarii in Warsaw you can buy lira before your trip and sell any banknotes you bring back – quickly and at the current rate.

The National Bank of Poland publishes a TRY rate every business day in table A, but that is a reference mid-rate only – a kantor always quotes two prices: buy and sell.
How much is 1 Turkish lira in złoty?
The lira has a low unit value today – one lira is worth a few groszy, so it is easier to think in hundreds and thousands. Where to buy and sell Turkish lira in Warsaw
Türkiye is one of the most popular holiday destinations from Poland, yet not every exchange office stocks the lira – many handle only the major pairs. At Argentarii you can buy lira before your flight and sell the banknotes left over after a trip to Antalya, Istanbul or Bodrum. What drives the TRY/PLN rate
The lira floats freely. Its quotations are driven mainly by inflation in Türkiye and the interest-rate policy of the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye, and then by tourism revenue and foreign capital flows. The lira-to-złoty rate is usually calculated through the dollar and euro pairs, so the euro rate and the dollar rate against the złoty also affect the price of TRY in Poland. We do not forecast rates and we do not advise on timing. We simply publish the board rate that applies right now.
Which Turkish banknotes we accept
Six banknote denominations are in circulation: 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 lira – the ninth emission group (E-9). We do not buy kuruş coins, so it is best to spend small change before you leave. Watch out for older notes: the eighth emission group marked “Yeni Türk Lirası” (YTL) was withdrawn on 1 January 2010 and the redemption period at the Turkish central bank ended on 31 December 2019 – neither a kantor nor a bank accepts them any more. Lira from before the 2005 redenomination, when six zeros were dropped (1,000,000 old lira = 1 new lira), are worthless too. Damaged banknotes are valued individually on site.
How the exchange works
Check the current rate and come to Grzybowska 61. The exchange takes a few minutes: you state the amount, we confirm the board rate and pay out cash on the spot. ID is required only for transactions of EUR 15,000 equivalent or more, in line with AML regulations. The kantor is entered in the NBP register of currency-exchange offices.

Is it better to exchange money in Poland or in Türkiye?
It is worth having lira on arrival – for the transfer, water or a first meal, as rates in the arrivals hall are usually noticeably worse. The rest can be exchanged locally. Exchanging złoty in Türkiye is difficult: few exchange offices buy PLN, and usually at a less favourable rate.
Do you buy back Turkish lira after a trip?
Yes, we buy all circulating banknote denominations: 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 lira. We do not accept kuruş coins, so it is best to spend the change before returning. We do not buy withdrawn YTL notes or pre-2005 lira. They are no longer valid.
Can I pay in euros or dollars in Türkiye?
The official currency is the lira and prices are quoted in it. Hotels and tourist areas sometimes accept euros, but usually at an inflated conversion, and change is given in lira anyway. Paying in lira avoids a double conversion – so it is worth preparing cash before you travel.
